They often do Multi Tasking like listening to music while chatting in phone. They use their phone like a pc and try to do most of their day to day task with their phone. If you fall in this category selecting a phone is a great difficult task.

Processor:
These days processor are mostly either quadcore or octacore. You can get double the performance from octacore comparing to quad core. There are two giant processor manufacturers namely Mediatek and Qualcomm. Budget phones around 5K usually come with Quadcore while flagship devices come with Octacore

Qualcomm processors are costly comparing to mediatek. They outperform Mediatek in most of the cases. Qualcomm processors are preferred for gaming and multi tasking

Mediatek processors are great for budget smartphones. You can't expect to play very high end games without any lag but you can play moderate graphics demanding games at medium or low settings with low FPS.
Ram:

Earlier rams were too low in smartphones like 512 Mb. Today, they have been improved to a greater extend. For light user 1-2 Fb of ram is enough. 3 Gb of ram is preferred for both moderate user and 4-6 Gb is prefered for heavy user.
Screen Size:
4.5 inches: Mostly suitable for lite user. Goes easily in pocket. Easy to hold with one hand. Best to make phone calls.
5 inches: Suitable for moderate users. Mostly it has 720p HD Display. Best to watch videos. Goes in pant pocket but difficult to place in your shirt pocket.
5.5 inches and above:Best for both moderate and heavy user. Comes in HD, Full HD, and 4K displays. Needs both hands to hold. This big display is needed to play graphics demanding games.
Camera:
If you don't take much photos then you need a phone with 8 mp rear and 2 mp front camera. A good camera will always help you in many situations. So always buy a phone with a camera of minimum 8 mp. If you are craze about photos then you need minimum of 12 mp camera. If you are selfie addict then go fir minimum 5 mp front camera. There days dual cameras are seen which is also a good option which offers various blur and bokeh effect

If you want to be latest in every thing buy a phone which will give you update of next upcoming OS. The manufacturer will give update only if your mobile is a hit model and has many users. If you don't bother about OS they don't concentrate on this. Right now you can buy phones with either Nougat or Oreo
Price:
Buy a phone for around 5K to 6.5k if you are a lite user. 7k- 12k for a moderate user. Above 12k for a heavy user.
